
DUGAN HILL (NOBLE COUNTY)
When it comes to the sports of cross country and track and field, Dugan Hill has simply done and accomplished it all.
As a head coach for Caldwell High School, where he graduated in 1974, Hill guided his alma mater’s running programs to an incredible amount of success, including nine Ohio boys cross country state championships. Three other teams finished as the state runner-up. He served as head coach of the sport from 1987-2020.
In addition to the state CC crowns, 15 of his Redskin boys’ squads won Ohio Valley Athletic Conference team titles while nine of his girls’ teams captured OVAC championships. During his marvelous cross country head coaching career, 47 of his athletes were named All-State.
In track and field, Hill led three different teams to a runner-up finish at the Ohio High School State Meet. In all, Hill had 79 All-Staters.
He has been honored countless times for his work as a coach for the two sports. Hill is a member of the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OAT&CCC) Hall of Fame (1996) and the Ohio Eastern District Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame (2022). Hill’s storied career saw him named as the Eastern District Coach of the Year for both boys and girls cross country and boys and girls track and field several times.
Hill, who served as Caldwell’s Athletic Director from 1999-2012, also excelled in the classroom as a teacher. He is a member of the Caldwell High School Science Hall of Fame.
While an athlete at CHS, Hill was a member of the 1972 state runner-up cross country team and the 1973 state championship squad. He placed 15th at the State Meet as a junior. In his senior season, Hill finished fourth overall to earn All-Ohio honors. He was a qualifier in the mile run at the 1974 Ohio State Track and Field. At the time of his graduation, Hill owned the school record for the mile (4:32.1).
