RICK HAUGHT (RITCHIE COUNTY)
Quite simply, Rick Haught has been a man for all seasons when it comes to the coaching profession. He’s excelled as a leader in football, basketball and track and field.
Haught is a 1981 graduate of Williamstown High School, where his love for sports grew to another level. A graduate of Glenville State College, Haught would ultimately make his way to Ritchie County where he evolved into a championship coach.
In track and field, Haught guided the 2003 Rebels to the first state title for any sport in school history. His 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015 Rebel teams also brought home state championship trophies. In addition, five other teams finished as the runner-up. In 2015, he was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Boys Coach of the Year. He’s also won several other Coach of the Year honors for track and field.
As a head football coach, Haught led the Rebels to the 2022 Class A state championship. He compiled a 45-15 overall record as Ritchie’s head coach and had three other playoff teams. In 2022, he was named the Little Kanawha Conference’s Wayne Underwood Coach of the Year Award for all sports.
In basketball, Haught guided the Rebels in the seasons of 2008-2014 and again from 2018-2023. His 2021 squad became the first in school history to reach the State Tournament.
