Scott Cozzens – Class of 2026

Scott Cozzens

SCOTT COZZENS

(Washington County)

A product of Belpre High School, where he graduated in 1980, Scott Cozzens was a state championship winning coach not once, but twice during his career. During his four-year stint as the leader of the Parkersburg High girls basketball program, Cozzens guided the Big Reds to a pair of Class AAA state titles in 2018 and 2019.

There’s a good chance his team of 2020 would have accomplished a three-peat had it not been for Covid-19. The Big Reds had already reached the semifinals when the State Tournament was stopped due to the pandemic.

During his time at PHS, Cozzens led the Big Reds to three consecutive Mountain State Athletic Conference titles. PHS didn’t lose a conference game during that stretch. Before his run as a head girls basketball coach for PHS, Cozzens was a three-year assistant and part of another State Tournament team.

While directing the program, he was selected MSAC Coach of the Year and twice earned the USA Today West Virginia Coach of the Year. Also while at PHS, he served three years as a volleyball assistant.

Before coming to PHS, Cozzens was in charge of the Marietta High School girls basketball program for four seasons. Along the way, two of his teams reached the Sweet 16 phase of the regionals (the longest postseason run in school history).

He had three conference titles with MHS, four sectional championships and was a two-time conference and district Coach of the Year. He started his coaching career as a girls and boys assistant at Warren Local High School. Cozzens attended both Fairmont State and Ohio University, specializing in computer science.
