
TED VANSCOY (RITCHIE COUNTY)Ted VanScoy’s life in athletics includes both coaching and officiating.
A 1970 graduate of Doddridge County High School, Vanscoy has been a part of several successful athletic teams in Ritchie County, including golf.
From 2005-14 he led the Rebels of Ritchie County High School to three state championships and a pair of runner-up finishes. He also had five Little Kanawha Conference championships during that span. He was the 2013-14 West Virginia Coaches Association Golf Coach of the Year.
He had a 78.0 winning percentage on the links against primarily Class AAA schools.
He got his start in coaching at old Pennsboro High School (which combined with Harrisville to form Ritchie County High) under the late Kenny Wright, a Mid-Ohio Valley Sports Hall of Famer, as a football assistant. He would also coach football at Ritchie County from 1986-89 and again in the seasons of 2018-2021.
VanScoy coached track and field at both Pennsboro (1979-1986) and Ritchie County (1986-1990). His 1988 girls team was fourth in the state. He returned to lead the Lady Rebel program from 2003-2014. His teams won three Little Kanawha Conference titles and finished as state runner-up on five occasions.
During basketball season, VanScoy was recognized as one of the state’s top officials for several years.
