Tim Phillips – Class of 2024

TIMOTHY PHILLIPS (WOOD COUNTY)

The accomplishments by Timothy Phillips in the pool are something to behold. From his days as a young swimmer, Phillips has built career resume that is simply off the charts.

Starting with his high school career at Parkersburg, Phillips was an eight-time West Virginia individual swimming champion in four different events. He was a high school All-American in 2007, 2008 and 2009 in four events. Phillips was also a YMCA national champ in ’07, ’08 and ’09 in six events. 

In the Olympic Trials of 2008, 2012 and 2016, Phillips, competing in the butterfly, was 20th, sixth and fifth, respectively. 

He was a member of the U.S. National Team from 2010-17. During that span he captured gold medals and was part of setting American records in the 4×50 short course medley relay.

His swimming took him to France, Germany, Russia, Brazil, China, Hungary, Croatia and Italy.

Phillips competed collegiately at Ohio State University in the seasons of 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. He was a Big 10 champion in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2010

In 2010, he won the Big 10 title in the 100-yard butterfly and in the process broke the Michigan pool record that was owned by Olympic star Michael Phelps. 

Phillips earned All-Big 10 honors three times was Ohio State’s Swimmer of the Year on three occasions.

He left Ohio State with a Top 5 ranking in five different events. 

His post graduate career has featured plenty of competitive swimming. Phillips is presently a financial analyst and equities trader in New York City.
